What’s on at St Anns Allotments

There’s a lot for allotment holders to get involved in over the coming weeks…

You may have seen posters around site and lots of activity on Facebook leading up to our Wildlife Weekend, which is kicking off this evening with a bat walk. The bat walk is fully booked, but take a look at what’s on over the weekend, there are plenty of activities to join in with! You don’t have to be a plot holder to come along, so feel free to spread the word!

Also coming up we are inviting St Anns Allotment holders to enter one of our annual allotment competitions! There are four categories to choose from, judging will take place during National Allotment Week and prizes will be presented at our Harvest Celebration event in September. Please get in touch if you would like to enter.

July 2014 Allotment Competition1Next week the neighborhood policing team will be holding an allotment beat surgery at the Visitor Centre. If you would like to discuss security on site or need some advice, this is a great opportunity. Please see below for details.

Booking is essential, as places are limited. There will also be a one off ‘Heritage Open Day’ tour on Thursday 11th September at 1:30pm.

Rankin at the Allotments

We were happy to welcome international photographer Rankin to the allotments last Friday to take pictures of allotment holders and volunteers. The sun was shining, everyone had a great time and all of the photographs are fantastic! There was a buzz around the visitor centre all day, and especially in the evening when people started to arrive for the exhibition.

If you didn’t get a chance to come along, the photos will be projected at the Broadway cafe bar from 5pm each evening until the 1st June. We hope that there will also be an exhibition in the autumn too – we’ll let you know as soon as we have all of the details!

We also had a lot of media coverage. There was a great piece on the ‘Museums at Night’ show (44 mins in) on Saturday, interviewing some of the photographees. East Midlands Today (21 mins in) ran a lovely piece showing people’s reactions to their photos at the exhibition. We were also featured in the Nottingham Post and on the BBC News website. Finally, gardener Finlay and Suzannah from the Renewal Trust can be heard talking about Rankin’s visit on BBC Radio Nottingham (2 hours 40 mins in).

We’d like to thank everyone that helped to make this day happen!

Here’s a picture of some of the #Rankin4Notts team looking happy at the end of a tiring day!
