dig for history

With financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and professional support from Trent & Peak Archaeology we are now launching our ‘Dig for History’ Project at the historical St Anns Allotments site in inner city Nottingham.

Our project will run from April 2015 for a year and includes:
o Setting up a GIS database to record information
o An excavation of 19th C well system
o A series of community based excavations in individual gardens

Mo Cooper, Heritage Officer, said “This is going to be a really exciting community archaeology project, and we are encouraging our gardeners and the local community to get involved and learn about what’s under our feet. Gardeners have already found tiny china dolls and old tools, but we know the land has been used for 700 years – so hopefully we can find some older items – the skeleton of a dead king would be good! In fact we have found a stone with the words ‘Locksley’ engraved on it, probably a joke but you never know!”

Anyone interested in being involved with project should contact Mo Cooper, on 0115 958 9255 or
